Automotive Knowledge by Honda of Oakland: When is it Time for Tire Replacement?

Because tires wear over time, it is important to recognize signs that your tires may need to be replaced. It is recommended to visually check your tires once a month to make sure the tire tread depth is appropriate. Here are some common warning signs of worn tires.

If your car is vibrating too much when you are driving, it may be the tires. Although it could be worn shock absorbers or wheels that are out-of-balance, eventually the excessive vibration will damage the tires regardless of the cause. Be sure to have your tires inspected if you notice too much vibration.

Also be sure to check for damage on the sidewall. Look for cracks, cuts, and grooves in the tires. If you notice cracks, then it could mean that a tire leak is developing. Bulging and blisters occur when the outer surface of the tire begins to wear, which can cause a sporadic blow out if they aren't replaced in a timely manner.
